...Continue Reading »The latest CA ruling claims only business with physical locations are covered by Title III of the ADA, therefore businesses that are online-only are not legally required to make their websites accessible. It’s an incredible unfortunate ruling, with a silver lining that this may invoke some changes in the future. Sometimes, the only way out….is through.

It is currently one of the most common accessibility issues across the internet, but there are ways to make it better. Always remember to write concise, descriptive alt text for non-decorative images to help users and browsers understand what an image is portraying!

While the standards for the private sector are not at our doorstep, they are certainly down the street at the bodega, getting an everything bagel with lox and cream cheese. We need to continue to strive for AA compliance and not take the easy paths. The shortcuts we make today build the long road back to the right way.

I turn on closed captions when watching TV in my bedroom, typically because my toddler is sleeping right across the hall. This is a great example of situational accessibility, and why it’s such an important consideration when delivering content to users.
